Yes, theater helps to make this a wonderful life, and recently we have been asked if we have a set design for the stage version of the old Frank Capra, Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed holiday classic by that name. We have found at least two options:
Our set design for LITTLE WOMEN (the musical) features a Victorian multi-scene design with stationary areas that can be easily changed to adapt to the scenic needs for IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE. This is the more elaborate choice. A simpler alternative is to adapt our BABES IN ARMS (1937 revised version) Design-Pak. This shows how to build a unit set with a porch that can be redecorated for three different porches and simple flat units for the other scenes. This one includes plans for an outdoor walkway, a fence, and trees. It really captures the small-town look wanted for IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE. It even includes a plan for a bridge (Don’t jump, George!).
You can check out the concepts by looking at the pictures posted on our website. Just click the Design-Pak tab, use the drop-down menu, then scroll to the title you want to see. Thanks for taking a look, and may all your stage productions prove that “it’s a wonderful life.”
