No doubt about it: MARY POPPINS is the big musical for 2015.
Here’s the concept for the set designed by old pro, Mark Koski:
The stage version of the magical musical, MARY POPPINS, has a set that places Burt, the chimney sweep, at the center of the scene changes. Mary herself directs the flow of the plot, but Burt and his cohorts direct the scenery. The central concept of the set consists of the chimneys and rooftops of Edwardian London. Several levels are provided that function as both the rooftops and the hills of the park. Several chimneys serve dual purposes to reduce the number of units moving on- and offstage. Some chimneys rotate to become pedestals for the statues in the park; others “transform” into the children’s nursery. If you use the actors playing the chimney sweeps, and perhaps some stagehands dressed as sweeps, to move the scenery, it will give a fun flow to the show. Enjoy!
