Over the years so many people have asked us: How did you folks come up with this idea? Well, actually, the idea kind of came to us. Several decades ago while some of us were directing high school and college plays, a need was born. Some of us were fortunate. We had access to designers who could put together blue prints and colored drawings so our crews could build some pretty amazing sets. As time went by, we were getting requests from other theatre directors in our area and began putting them in touch with designers who could help them.
After a short period of time, the idea for a “service” emerged, and we decided to ask several designers, who had extensive educational and professional experience to put together about ten design “Paks” of the most popular shows. These “Paks” would include a basic teaching manual of traditional set building techniques, all the drawings necessary for specific shows, a materials list, and copies of the original colored renderings done by our designer-artists. It was fun!. We came ujp with a small brochure and sent it to drama directors in our state and some neighboring ones. That was a while ago.
Over the years we have gone from those first ten Paks to over 150. The brochure has changed from merely listing shows (with some director testimonies on the usefulness of the product) to 10 pages of information about Paks, Show Shirts, Posters, Banners, Muslin, and our Annual Photo Contest that features sixteen schools across the country who have won trophies for their building of scenery from our Design-Paks.
Please remember when dealing with us that we are Thespians too, and have a profound interest is drama. You are more to us than an invoice number, you’re a friend, a fellow-dramatist. We owe you a responsibility – to provide the best possible scenery for your production. Drop us a line. We look forward to hearing from you!
